It’s not too late to experience some of the magic of Clarion, if you’ve never been, or to relive the adventure one more time. Sign-up for the annual write-a-thon is underway and you have less than a week before it begins on Sunday, June 24th. On that date, participants will write at homes and coffeeshops across the world, providing moral support while 18 students are transformed into the Clarion Class of 2012 in San Diego.
What is a write-a-thon, anyway? It’s just like a walk-a-thon. But instead of walking, we’re writing, and instead of making pledges per mile, we’re making pledges per word, chapter, or story. Writers get support, encouragement and motivation, and the option of joining a team with a writing mentor! Those who care about the writers in their life get a way to show their support. And money is raised for a literally fantastic cause — the Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers’ Workshop. All donations are made through The Clarion Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, EIN #20-3114945.
This year, will also have the option of joining teams of writers for those of you who would like additional support to keep motivated through the hot days of summer. Team leaders (disclaimer: I am one of them) will be there to cheer you on, offer advice, and check in with you from time to time to make sure you haven’t fallen off the wagon.
Help us reach our goal of 150 writers signed up by June 24th! Spread the word and let’s make this a write-a-thon to remember.
